Summary

A discussion of what is and what isn't Linux

Abstract

The discussion is based on Chris's personal experience of having people mistake software built on Linux (i.e. systemd, dbus, desktop environments, etc.) as being part of Linux and not software running on a Linux-based Operating System.

He shows what an operating system kernel is and what it does, what it doesn't do, and how it descends from UNIX.

He also shows how Gnu Tools help build Linux, but are not part of Linux.
